(MUNCIE) - A Ball State criminologist says law enforcement and society are likely to see more criminals with “anti-social personality disorder.”
Dr. Bryan Byers says ASPD is the updated term for sociopath or psychopath. It describes a person who is cunning, manipulative, violent, lacks remorse and doesn't weigh the consequences of actions among other traits. He says such behaviors are disturbing and difficult for many people to understand.
Dr. Byers says the most effective ways of addressing such behavior include mental health counseling, restricting their access to firearms and greater community involvement when it comes to reporting to authorities about such behaviors in affected people.
