Excise Police Arrest Seven At Madison Regatta

(MADISON) - Indiana State Excise Police officers arrested seven people on nine charges at this weekend’s Madison Regatta.

Excise officers arrested five minors and three adults on the following charges:

3-Theft (Misdemeanor)
3-Illegal possession or consumption of alcohol (Misdemeanor)
1-Furnishing alcohol to a minor (Misdemeanor)
1-Resisting law enforcement (Misdemeanor)
1-Possession of untaxed alcoholic beverages (Misdemeanor)

On Thursday, officers arrested Joshua L. Mahoney, 19, of Madison, for theft and illegal consumption of alcohol after they saw him steal a bag of ice from a package liquor store.

On Friday, excise officers arrested Jacob D. Marshall, 20, of Madison, and a 17-year-old for theft of various items at Walmart. In an unrelated case, Cody Crabtree, 25, of Madison, was preliminarily charged with possession of untaxed alcoholic beverages.

On Saturday, officers arrested Cory M. O'Neal, 19, of Lexington, for illegal consumption of alcohol. Nicholas J. Bohman, 22, of Hanover, was arrested and preliminarily charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor and resisting law enforcement.

Also on Saturday, a 17-year-old from Dupont was arrested for illegal possession/consumption of alcohol and released to a parent. A 17-year-old from North Vernon was also issued a warning for illegal possession of alcohol.

Excise officers worked closely with the Madison Police Department and Indiana State Police during the Regatta this weekend.

Indiana State Excise Police officers are the enforcement division of the Indiana Alcohol & Tobacco Commission. While excise officers have the authority to enforce any state law, they focus primarily on enforcing Indiana's alcohol and tobacco statutes.
