Despite Setbacks, Overall Well-Being Of Indiana Children Improves

Last updated on Tuesday, July 22, 2014

(UNDATED) - Indiana ranks 27th in the country when it comes to overall well-being of children. That’s up three spots from last year.

The ranking comes from The Annie E. Casey Foundation's 2014 Kids Count Databook.

Despite the improvement, there's some startling numbers.

Out of Indiana's fourth-grade students, 62-percent still score below the "proficient" level in reading. 22-percent of Hoosier kids live in poverty and that number is increasing faster than in other states.
