Death Penalty Sought In Quadruple Homicide Case

Last updated on Wednesday, July 16, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry says his office is seeking the death penalty against a suspect in a quadruple homicide case on the city’s southside.

Curry says they'll pursue the death penalty against 24-year-old Kenneth Rackemann. Curry says Rackemann faces charges of murder, felony murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. This after 47-year-old Walter Burnell, 43-year-old Jacob Rodemich, 22-year-old Kristy Sanchez and 21-year-old Hayley Navarro were all found fatally shot inside Burnell's house on the city's south side, near Beech Grove February 20th.

Curry says Rackemann shot Burnell in the chest, Rodemich in the face, Sanchez in the head and Navarro in the neck. Navarro survived, but Curry says Rackeman summoned cohort Valencia Williams to shoot Navarro again in the head which he says she did.

Anthony LaRussa, Valencia Williams and Samantha Bradley also face charges and Curry says their cases are moving forward.

Curry says drug activity was taking place at the home where the incident occurred. He sites multiple victims, robbery and the fact that Rackemann was on parole as reasons for seeking the death penalty.

On another note, Curry says he's still considering the death penalty in the Major Davis case. Davis is charged with murder in the death of IMPD officer Perry Renn.

IMPD Chief Rick Hite says seeking the death penalty in these cases means the public is fed up and won't tolerate horrific crime.
