Cause Of Faurecia Fire Undetermined

Last updated on Friday, July 11, 2014

(COLUMBUS) - The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) has ruled that the cause of the Monday’s fire at the Faurecia plant at 601 S. Gladstone Ave. on the city’s east side is officially undetermined.

CFD Spokesman Captain Mike Wilson says that investigators have viewed Faurecia security footage from the scene. Unfortunately, the footage did not provide investigators with a clear view of the fire.

After examining the scene and returning to the suspected origin of the fire, investigators determined that there was no evidence available to determine the cause. With that said, the official cause of the fire will remain undetermined.

The fire was located on the northeast corner of the plant grounds in an exterior storage area. Wilson says that when firefighters arrived, they found approximately 6,000 square feet of storage containers fully involved in the blaze.

The fire was deemed under control after approximately 30 minutes. Company officials told fire investigators that the estimated cost of materials damaged in the fire was close to $250,000. They estimated that it would take approximately one week to replace the product lost.

No injuries were reported.
