(CROWN POINT) - A 26-year-old Portage man entered a formal not-guilty plea in court Wednesday to murder charges, for the July 6 death of Gary patrolman Jeffery Westerfield.
A shackled Carl Blount was flanked by two heavily armed Lake County Sheriff's police for his formal appearance in Lake Criminal Court.
A sheriff's deputy used a metal detector wand to check everyone entering the courtroom and inspected women carrying purses.
