(COLUMBUS) - Nearly 30 weapons are missing from a Bartholomew County home. The victims think the burglars targeted them because they’re well known in their community.
WISH TV reports, if you grew up in Bartholomew County, chances are you may know one of Noltings. Bruce Nolting's father and grandfather both served as the county sheriff. Nolting's son currently works for the Columbus Police Department.
On July 16, Bruce Nolting and his wife became victims of a serious crime.
"They made quite a haul," Nolting said.
That's how Nolting described the burglary at his home last Wednesday. It happened south of County Road 225 N and State Road 9.
"They put some kind of pry bar underneath the far corner of the garage door and popped that open," Nolting said.
Nolting said the burglars made their way in through an access door in the garage into the house.
"The number of items that they took; stripped pillow cases off the bed which they used to stuff full of goods," Nolting said.
They even made their way to the basement and took guns out of a safe.
"It was full, it had 51 long guns in it," Nolting said.
The guns belonged to Nolting and his three sons.
"A lot of them were of sentimental value," he said.
One of the guns stolen Nolting said belonged to his grandfather.
"It was his service revolver; very unusual gun," he said.
Notling said the gun is called a Colt Police Positive; very unique with a four inch barrel, a wooden handle and wood grips.
"Something that also makes it unique was it was in it's holster that he carried it in," he said.
Nolting is putting up a $5,000 dollar cash reward for information leading to an arrests and conviction of the burglars. He's hoping someone will come forward and turn them in.
"I think maybe that incentive of a cash reward will help stir the rats sorta speak," Nolting said.
Investigators are looking for two white men in their late 20′s to early 30′s who were last seen near the Nolting's home Wednesday afternoon. Police said the men were driving a dingy white-colored late 70′s model pick-up truck.
