Last updated on Friday, June 20, 2014

(HENDRICKS CO.) - Walmart is expected to bring 300 jobs to central Indiana

Walmart plans to open an e-commerce fulfillment center in Plainfield by 2016. The retailer will build a 1.2 million-square-foot operation in Hendricks County.

Workers will process and ship orders placed on the store's website.

Hiring will get underway in October. The company has not said how much the new jobs will pay.

The new building will be located in Plainfield's All Points Midwest Industrial Business Park.

Under terms of the deal, Walmart will receive up to $2,930,000 in conditional tax credits from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. Another $200,000 in training grants will also be available to the company.

An IEDC spokesperson says Walmart will eventually begin accepting applications on its website closer to October, in addition to hiring kiosks in stores.

Walmart currently employs more than 36,000 people in Indiana.
