Last updated on Monday, June 23, 2014

(HENRY CO.) - Police said two people are dead and a teenager was airlifted following a four-car crash on I-70 in Henry County.

The crash happened in the westbound lanes of I-70, just west of State Road, at 12:13 p.m. near mile marker 123.

Officers arrived at the scene to find three people trapped inside of a car. The driver and front seat passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have identified them as Slyvia Kay Shaw, 66, of New Brighton, Minnesota, and John Leonard Shaw, 66, also of New Brighton, Minnesota.

A 13-year-old passenger were airlifted to Riley's Children Hospital in Indianapolis. The teen's condition was not released as of Saturday night.

Henry County police said their car was hit from behind by a semi. The driver of the semi was identified as Richard Engstrom, 59, of Indianapolis.

The car was then pushed into the back of another semi, driven by Sheridan J. Crum, 58, of Cocoa, Florida. Police said Shaw's car also hit another car sitting behind the semi. That driver was identified as Kevin Ruble, 45, of Indianapolis.

Crum, Engstrom, and Ruble were not injured in the crash, according to police.

Police said at the time of the crash, traffic was not moving. Officers are still unsure why traffic was stopped.

All westbound lanes of I-70 near mile marker 123 lanes were closed for about three hours as crews cleaned up the scene. The lanes have since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
