Tech High School Shooting Suspect Turns Himself In

Last updated on Wednesday, June 4, 2014

(UNDATED) - A suspect turned himself in after a shooting injured a girl outside Tech High School in Indianapolis.

19-year-old William Alvies surrendered at the City-County Building according to IMPD Lt. Chris Bailey, apparently at the behest of his mother and IMPD Officer Mark Decker, who had established a relationship with the mother over his 20 years of patrolling the eastside. Bailey says the 17-year-old girl, a Tech student, was shot in the arm after she and Alvies argued in the school's parking lot just before noon on Tuesday. The girl is in good condition at Eskenazi Hospital.

Bailey says it appears the couple were once boyfriend and girlfriend, and he says it appears a protective order against the suspect was in place. Alvies is not a student.
