Speed Was Factor In Deadly I-65 Crash

Last updated on Friday, June 13, 2014

(UNDATED) - A woman is dead after a crash Thursday night on Interstate 65 in Johnson County.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Rich Myers says a semi tractor-trailer was traveling at or below the posted speed on northbound I-65 near the 86 miler marker when it was hit from behind by a BMW. The BMW went underneath the trailer and the driver, a young woman from Columbus, was killed at the scene.

Sgt. Myers says excessive speed and driver inattention are likely to blame for the crash. He says a small dog which was riding in the BMW was not hurt and given to an acquaintance of the driver.

State Police are withholding the victim's name pending notification of family.
