Pit Bull Attacks 7-Year-Old Girl

Last updated on Wednesday, June 4, 2014

(LAFAYETTE) - Police in Lafayette say an officer had to use a stun gun to subdue a pit bull after the dog attacked a 7-year-old girl.

Police say the girl suffered multiple bite wounds and was taken to a hospital for treatment after the attack Monday.

Lafayette police Sgt. Jay Rosen tells the Journal & Courier the girl and her mother were visiting the home where a resident was watching the pit bull for its owner who had recently moved out of state. He says the dog tried to attack officers who arrived.

Neighbor Lois Joyce tells WLFI-TV that the dog continued fighting even after being hit by the stun gun.

The dog was taken to a shelter for a 10-day quarantine. Rosen says the dog's fate hasn't been determined.
