Mooresville Investigators Search For Arsonist

Last updated on Monday, June 9, 2014

(MOORESVILLE) - The Mooresville Fire Department is investigating a string of arson fires over the past few days that have all happened along the same road.

The fires have involved 3 small sheds and a barn - all located behind other buildings.

At least four fires have taken place on Indianapolis Road in Mooresville since early Friday morning.

Fire officials say the first fire was in the 1200 block of Indianapolis Road at 12:30 a.m. Friday morning. While finishing up at that scene, crews were called to another fire a block and half away. They put out a small shed fire at 720 Indianapolis Road.

Then, about 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning there was a mini barn fire behind a home at 530 Indianapolis Road.

The most recent fire was just after midnight Sunday morning when a large barn burned. Officials say it was a 20 by 30 foot barn that sits behind a church in the 600 block of Indianapolis Road. The fire had totally engulfed the barn by the time fire fighters arrived.

Officials say all of the fires happened between 12-1 a.m. and believe someone started all of them.

Fire officials from Mooresville Fire, Brown Township Fire, Mooresville Police, Morgan County Sheriff, and the Arson Task force, have been working collectively to gather evidence and leads to find who is responsible.

Investigators say extra police patrols were already in place, even before the fourth fire.

Officials are asking any neighbors who may have seen anything suspicious prior to these times, to contact investigators - call the Mooresville Police Department at (317) 831-3434 or the Mooresville Fire Department Headquarters at (317) 831-5354.

Mooresville Fire Department officials say, "Our efforts will continue, as we hope this behavior is stopped before someone gets hurt or killed, or further damage becomes larger."
