Last updated on Wednesday, June 25, 2014

(HANCOCK CO.) - A Hancock County man told police he was late for work after he was stopped for speeding in a construction zone.

29-year-old Brandon Barngrover of Wilkinson was stopped by state police on Interstate 70 in Clay County just before noon Monday. Several witnesses had called 911 dispatchers, reporting Barngrover driving nearly 100 mph westbound on the interstate.

Indiana State Police Trooper Mike Wood noticed Barngrover's vehicle at the 39 mile marker, traveling at 100 mph, passing without using a turn signal and continuing at a high rate of speed through a 45 mph construction zone.

Barngrover told police he was running late for work in Sullivan County. He was taken into custody on reckless driving charges and his 2011 Chevrolet Camaro was impounded.
