Indy Gearing Up For Bicentennial

Last updated on Friday, June 13, 2014

(UNDATED) - Indianapolis wants to hear from you when it comes to what the city should look like when its bicentennial arrives six years from now.

The initiative for Plan 2020 will include several committees that will generate ideas and gather input from the public. "You tell us what does Indy need to attract and retain residents in 2020," said Mayor Greg Ballard. "What should Indianapolis look like? What kind of urban amenities will future residents want? What will drive them to pick Indy as their home?"

Five Plan 2020 committees will begin meeting soon - nominations are being taken online at plan2020.com, and they will come up with plans for the future of things like transportation, parks and recreation, land use and economic development. "And exposing the missing gaps of where different initiatives are not cooperation, and raising those up to generate new opportunities to generate greater opportunities for innovation and success," said Adam Thies (teese), director of the Department of Metropolitan Development for the city.

Plan 2020 is a partnership of the Metropolitan Development department and and the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee.
