Indiana Man Carry Rifle Protest Loss Of Driver's License

Last updated on Friday, June 6, 2014

(LAFAYETTE) - A man who has been walking along roads in Lafayette carrying a rifle to protest the loss of his driver’s license says he intends to continue doing so despite being clipped in an apparent hit-and-run.

Jim Sanders called police Wednesday afternoon and said he was struck by a pickup truck that swerved at him.

Police say there were no witnesses. Sanders declined medical treatment.

Numerous people have called Lafayette police to report seeing a man walking around town carrying a rifle strapped to his torso. Sanders tells WLFI-TV he's protesting losing his driver's license for refusing to pay fines.

Sanders said Thursday he intends to continue his protest. Police say as long as Sanders doesn't threaten anyone, he has a right to carry the rifle.
