(INDIANAPOLIS) - As has been the case many times before, experts have said unrest in the Middle East is directly tied to rising gas prices across the United States.
Gas prices across Indianapolis started reaching close to $4.00 a gallon over the weekend and on Monday the average in Indiana soared well above that of the nation.
According to GasBuddy.com, the national average Monday morning was $3.65. Averages in Indiana, Michigan and Illinois ranged from $3.88 in Indiana to $3.97 in Illinois.
Analyst Patrick DeHaan addressed the trend in the Midwest in a blog post Friday. He said the prices foreshadowed what was to come for the rest of the country but did not give a reason why they were the first averages to climb.
Rising fears of a major oil shipment disruption caused by unrest in Iraq has been blamed for the increase.
