(INDIANAPOLIS) - A police chase sent five people to the hospital, including two police officers, after it ended in a crash on the southeast side Saturday night.

At about 9:47 p.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop in the area of Sherman Avenue and Washington Street. The officer pulled over the driver of a Maroon Buick for a moving violation.

Officials say that the driver swore at the officer when he asked for license and registration, then drove off. The driver then led officers on a vehicle pursuit traveling south on Keystone Avenue.

The suspect vehicle struck a motorcycle at the corner of Keystone Avenue and Raymond Street throwing the driver and the passenger several yards away.

The suspect continued traveling at a high rate of speed before crashing one block south of the intersection at Keystone Avenue and Kelly Street.

A witness says that the driver of the Buick tried to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody. The suspect was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in stable condition. Officials at the scene said the suspect smelled of alcohol and marijuana when officers cuffed him.

Two IMPD officers were injured and transported to Methodist Hospital after their cars collided with each other.

The unidentified motorcyclist and motorcycle passenger were transported to Eskenazi Health in serious but stable condition. Investigators say it is a miracle that they survived.

Officials say everyone is expected to make a full recovery.
