Child Welfare Leadership Institute Underway

Last updated on Friday, June 13, 2014

(UNDATED) - Indiana child welfare workers are meeting in Indianapolis for their second annual “leadership institute.”

The annual gathering is a chance for child-services managers to brainstorm how to implement ideas they've offered for improving the child-welfare system. Governor Pence told the group encouraging that kind of thought about the agency's mission will produce better results in the long term.

Pence says child-welfare caseworkers have one of the most critical jobs in state government, and one of the most challenging -- he notes they have to decide whether a family quarrel is a signal of abuse or a run-of-the-mill argument.
