(RILEY CO.) - A youth from Sunman was found dead in a private pond in Ripley County Wednesday afternoon.
Indiana Conservation officers said they are investigating the death of 19-year-old Thomas Herring who went missing from his home Wednesday around 2 p.m.
When he was not located in the house, Thomas' mother began looking for him including searching the woods behind the home. His father located his clothing beside a neighbor's pond where it appeared Thomas went swimming.
ICO divers located Thomas's body in the 8-foot pond, 10 yards from a small fishing pier at 7 p.m.
His family said Thomas was not a strong swimmer. At this time, it is unclear why he decided to enter the water.
Officers said the case remains under investigation.
