Vigo Co. Sheriff Says: Dead Animals Found In Cages

Last updated on Friday, May 16, 2014

(WEST TERRE HAUTE) - The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office said they found multiple animals without food and water, including some dead ones, at a West Terre Haute home.

"There were feces all over the ground. There were multiple dogs and cats," Sheriff Greg Ewing told 24-Hour News WTHI.

The report states the sheriff's office found 7 dogs and 4 cats living in cages. Those animals had no access to food or water.

"There was a dog that was dead in a cage. It had been dead for quite some time in a state of decay," Ewing said.

A dead cat was also found next to a bed in the house.

Ewing said the kitchen had litter boxes sitting on the counter tops, overflowing, next to a toaster.

"This one I will say ranks right up there with the worst case I've ever seen," Ewing said.

The sheriff's office urges anyone to call them or animal control if you see anything suspicious.

In this West Terre Haute case, a report saved several animals. Police said the report brought in the health department to decide whether the house was unfit for living until it's cleaned up.

The owner of the house was cited for her offense and she faces 11 different counts of animal cruelty and neglect.
