(UNDATED) - With a seven-week ethics inquiry behind him, Cicero Representative Eric Turner says he’ll support efforts to require more detailed financial disclosures from legislators.
In his first interview since the House Ethics Committee began its review, Turner tells W-I-B-C he'd support more transparency in reporting. The ethics panel concluded its work Wednesday with a finding that Turner broke no rules, but said it would reconvene later this year to discuss more detailed reporting requirements. The committee said Turner didn't meet "the highest spirit of transparency" with financial statements which detailed his investments in real estate partnerships and investment funds without listing what those funds were invested in.
Turner says he willingly gave the committee additional detail beyond what's required in response to questions, and says it would be "a good thing" to require more disclosure from all lawmakers.
Turner faces a G-O-P primary challenge next week from Sheridan architect Parvin Gillim. While opponents of same-sex marriage have criticized Turner for authoring a constitutional amendment to ban it, Turner says polls indicate his six-county district still backs the amendment. He says the public will get to voice its opinion directly if the amendment makes it to a referendum in 2016.
