Train Derails In Scottsburg

Last updated on Monday, May 19, 2014

(SCOTTSBURG) - Police are investigating after a train derailed in southern Indiana Saturday morning.

The derailment happened between Main Street and Marshfield Road in Scottsburg.

Crews at the scene told WLKY News that no tankers and no hazardous materials were involved.

"Once we arrived on the scene, we noticed that all the cars were just car hauler trailers. There's no hazardous vehicles involved. It is just new vehicles," said Scottsburg Fire Chief James Richey.

Police said eight cars derailed and some power lines were knocked out.

The train goes through the heart of town, which meant drivers had to take a detour.

The CSX Transportation train was carrying new cars when it derailed.

Another train is being brought in from Jeffersonville to clear the cars that did not derail.

No injuries were reported.

The tracks are expected to be back in operation by Tuesday.
