(UNDATED) - New lunch requirements meant to make meals healthier are expensive and not popular with students, according to school leaders.
Starting the next school year, half the grains served at lunch must be whole grain. Food must be lower in sodium and schools must provide healthier snacks and more fruits and vegetables.
While school nutrition directors agree they need to offer healthier meals, they say healthier alternatives typically cost more - and many students are rejecting them.
They've asked Congress and the Department of Agriculture to roll back some of the requirements.
