(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) - LMPD Public Information Officer Dwight Mitchell confirms to WDRB News that U of L basketball player Mangok Mathiang was arrested just after the Kentucky Derby.
According to court documents, Mathiang faces charges of drinking an alcoholic beverage in a public place and failure to disperse.
An arrest report states the incident happened at 7:30 p.m. on May 3rd at 3rd Street and Central Avenue just outside of Churchill Downs. In the report, an officer writes that Mathiang was "walking down 3rd Street when his friend was arrested and was asked several times to leave and kept walking down street following the police."
The report goes on to say Mathiang had a Bud Light in a can and dropped it on the ground.
Mathiang is a red shirt freshman for the Cardinals.
