(INDIANAPOLIS) - Plans to create a database filled with every Indiana student’s achievement test scores, college degrees and job histories are raising privacy concerns among some parents and experts.
The Indiana Network of Knowledge will track students from elementary school through college and into the workforce. State officials say it will help them identify trends and tailor the education system to better meet employers' needs.
Education leaders tell The Indianapolis Star that great care will be taken to remove student names and other identifying information. But IU law professor Fred H. Cate says he worries that the database could be used to track down students with unpaid loans or those who might be involved in terrorist activities.
State leaders say the data is not for sale.
