Last updated on Thursday, May 1, 2014

(FORT WAYNE) - An Indianapolis man is behind bars in Fort Wayne following the seizure of over two tons of marijuana Monday.

The Drug Enforcement Agency says 50-year-old Martin Gonzalez-Medina was arrested after delivering the marijuana to a warehouse off of Industrial Road in Fort Wayne. The drugs originated from Mexico and were transported through Texas before coming to Fort Wayne.

Officials say the marijuana was compressed and hidden in twelve large deep freezers. It was split into bundles weighing 10 to 50 pounds each and has a street value of approximately one-point-seven million dollars.

Gonzalez-Medina was charged in U.S. District Court with Possession With Intent to Distribute Marijuana. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five to 40 years in prison and a fine of up to five-million dollars.
