Man Arrested in Hancock County Accused of Human Trafficking

Last updated on Thursday, May 8, 2014

(UNDATED) - A traffic stop in Hancock County led to the arrest of one man from Honduras and another man is now facing deportation.

Indiana State Police say a state trooper pulled over a pickup truck on eastbound I-70 near Mount Comfort Road around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday for a traffic violation.

The trooper found inconsistencies in the stories of the two adult men and two juveniles who were in the truck. The trooper discovered that the two juveniles, ages 12 and 13, were being held against their will and were being taken to Columbus, Ohio to work off a debt that their family owed to unnamed people in Mexico.

The Department of Homeland Security Investigations were called to the scene and the two juveniles were placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.

One of the men, 26-year-old Romulo Molina of Honduras, was arrested and charged with felony human trafficking. He was taken to the Hancock County Jail. The other man who was not identified was released to the Department of Homeland Security and will face deportation.
