Logansport Man Sentenced In Beating Of Infant

Last updated on Monday, May 5, 2014

(PERU) - A Logansport man received a six-year prison sentence Thursday to the battery of a 1-month-old baby girl last year.

23-year-old Hogan Moss plead guilty in March to battery resulting in severe brain and retinal injuries to the girl when he shook her to stop her from crying. It was part of a plea agreement that dropped a second charge of neglect of a dependent in serious bodily injury, 24-Hour News 8′s news gathering partner The Kokomo Tribune reports.

Police say the incident occurred when the child's mother ran out to run errands. The next day, the mother found the child had a fever and feeding issues and took the child to the hospital.

Medics determined the baby had Shaken Baby Syndrome.

The plea agreement resulted in six years in prison and two years of probation. The maximum sentence for battery resulting in serious bodily injury on a person less than 14 years of age is 20 years.
