Last updated on Thursday, May 1, 2014

(SANTA CLAUS) - A southern Indiana theme park is gearing up for its 68th season.

Holiday World and Splashin' Safari in Santa Claus will welcome visitors May 3rd for weekends. Daily hours will be begin May 16th.

Park President Matt Eckert says eight-million dollars went into improvements this year.

New this year--- the first sailing of the Mayflower swinging ship. The family ride will carry up to 60 riders at a time, swinging in an arc 54-feet-high over a pool of water.

There will also be Friday Night Fireworks, and a Mrs. Klaus' Kitchen makeover, including a new home for Santa Claus.

The park has removed what once was touted as the world's tallest water ride. Giraffica--formerly called Pilgrim's Plunge, was torn down. Eckert says the decision was difficult, but the ride was closed more often than it was open.
