Farm Hands Harvesting Strawberries

Last updated on Friday, May 30, 2014

(KNOX COUNTY) - Strawberry fans are hitting the fields in southern Indiana looking to get a taste of the first fruit of the season.

Farm hands right now are harvesting the first strawberry yields and farmers say it's always one of the most popular produce yields.

News 10 stopped in at Blann's Berries in northern Knox County where staffers say this time of year is like the unofficial start to summer produce season.

"It's one of the first fruits of the season, and it just seems like people are very anxious to get strawberries and always enjoy strawberries early in the spring season and here in the summer," described Jeff Blann, Blann Farms owner.

Farm experts say it's not just the berries that bring people out.

Lots of early harvest fresh produce are on local stands in neighborhoods near you.
