Contractor Strikes Oil On Indiana State Campus

Last updated on Tuesday, May 6, 2014

(TERRE HAUTE) - A contractor has struck oil on Indiana State University’s campus, although it might be a while before school officials know what sort of money to expect.

Oil drilling began in December on university-owned property near downtown Terre Haute.

Indiana State vice president Diann McKee says the cold winter slowed work but oil pumping has been going intermittently with the warmer weather. She says it could take more than a month of continual pumping to gauge possible production levels.

The Tribune-Star reports that university President Dan Bradley presented Board of Trustees members with commemorative jars filled with the crude oil on Friday.

Bradley says the contractor is pleased with the drilling results and expects it will be profitable. Numerous other oil wells are in operation around Terre Haute.
