Another Indiana School District Drops Online ISTEP Test

Last updated on Thursday, May 1, 2014

(FORT WAYNE) - Another large Indiana school district has halted ISTEP testing after students faced trouble with the exam’s online version.

The Southwest Allen County Schools near Fort Wayne says it stopped Tuesday's testing and would postpone Wednesday's exams until the issues could be resolved.

District Superintendent Steve Yager tells The Journal Gazette that its elementary and middle schools had widespread troubles with the exam. Yager says state contractor CTB/McGraw-Hill blamed the trouble on too much online traffic.

The Fort Wayne Community Schools and Wayne Township schools in Indianapolis also have dropped the online version. Some 80,000 Indiana students had ISTEP exams interrupted last year by online troubles.

CTB/McGraw-Hill Brian Belardi says this week's problems have been isolated and that some troubles have been with school district equipment.
