(STARKE CO.) - A traffic stop lead to the discovery of 172 baggies of heroin on a Logansport woman.

Indiana State Police stopped 36-year-old Kelly Koranda of Logansport for a traffic infraction on U.S. 35, just south of 500 North in Starke County. Law enforcement said they became suspicious after speaking to the woman and observing her behavior. After performing a drug evaluation on Koranda, troopers felt she was exhibiting signs of impairment.

Koranda was transported to IU Health Starke Hospital for a blood and urine drug screen. During the administration of the test, a nurse discovered drug items in her underwear.

ISP troopers spoke with Koranda about the drugs. She reportedly admitted to eating ten packets of the suspected heroin prior to being stopped, along with hiding the other packets in her underwear. In total, officers recovered 172 baggies of heroin from Koranda that weighed approximately 36 grams.

Koranda was admitted to the hospital due to ingestion of the drugs on Thursday, April 24.

Officers arrested Koranda at the hospital after she was released on Sunday, April 27. She was taken to the Starke County Jail and charged with three felonies and one misdemeanor, including dealing and possession of a narcotic drug and maintaining a common nuisance.
