Last updated on Wednesday, April 16, 2014

(HUNTINGTON) - A woman who pleaded guilty to reckless homicide in connection to a morphine overdose death has been sentenced to eight years, six to be served in prison and two years of probation.

40-year-old Christy Oden was initially facing three felony drug dealing charges along with a reckless homicide charge after 39-year-old Annette Veach died from a morphine overdose on November 25, 2012. Three months after Veach's death, police arrested Oden.

Oden pleaded guilty to the reckless homicide charge before her trial was scheduled to start and the three dealing charges were dropped.

Oden has also been ordered to pay $5,367 in restitution, which was the cost of the victim's funeral. She will also be required to undergo counseling.
