(FORT WAYNE) - Authorities in Fort Wayne are looking for who is responsible for neglecting and starving a dog.
The dog was suffering from infected wounds, severely infected eyes and weighed less than half of what it should have when it was found two weeks ago covered in animal waste.
Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control (FWACC) officials are looking for the person who abused the animal.
The red and cream cattle dog was found at the 2800 block of South Barr Street on March 24. He was covered in animal waste, weighed half his expected weight and both his eyes were severely infected. He also had open wounds on his feet and hind quarters.
"Because its fur was soaked in urine, and its feet have opens wounds from sitting in urine for a long time, and the pressure sores, it's hard to believe that this dog had free rein of a house or something like that," said Randy Thornton, Enforcement Division Supervisor at FWACC. "We think it was inside something that caused these types of injuries."
The dog has been at the shelter for two weeks and has since doubled in weight and is expected to make a full recovery. He will be made available for adoption in a home that can accommodate his special circumstances.
