Man Sentenced To Five Decades For Producing Child Pornography

Last updated on Thursday, April 3, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A man from Whitestown was sentenced to more than five decades in prison for producing child pornography.

Daniel Jines pleaded guilty to several counts, and a federal judge gave him a sentence of 680 months.

Jines was accused of sexually abusing a girl over the course of several years, beginning when she was 8 years old. Prosecutors say he videotaped some of the abuse.

Police say when they searched Jines' home last year, they also found a large collection of disturbing pictures of children. Prosecutors call Jines an outwardly social person who was active in his church, but who also had a dark secret. They say none of Jines' family or friends appear to have known about his crimes.

"And that's what Mr. Jines was capable of doing," said Assitant U.S. Attorney A. Brant Cook. "He manipulated everyone around him. No one was more surprised when these things came out than those that were closest to him because he was so good at hiding who he really was.

Several local and federal agencies helped in the investigation.

Investigators say Jines' victim, who is now in her teens, is getting the help she'll need to heal from the ordeal.
