(SEVIERVILLE, TN) - An Indianapolis man died while saving the lives of family members in a cabin fire in Sevierville, Tennessee. The pastor of that man also says a 5-year-old boy is still missing and believed to have perished in the fire.
According to Sevier County Communications/Marketing Coordinator Perrin Anderson, a group of 25 people were staying in the cabin, including children as young as 4-years-old.
Around 4:30 a.m., flames sparked in the Cabins at the Crossing development.
When fire crews arrived on the scene, the cabin was already 75% involved and occupants were both inside and outside the building.
The family's pastor spoke with Eyewitness News reporter Emily Longnecker. He says an Aunt and Uncle had organized the family vacation. It included family members from Indianapolis and Louisville.
One adult male was pronounced dead at the hospital. The family pastor says that the man died while saving other family members from the fire.
He also confirms that one 5-year-old boy is still missing.
Several people were transported to LeConte Medical Center for various injuries, including many with minor abrasions and some with broken bones.
Local and state officials are investigating the fire.
