First Grade Teacher Arrested For DUI, Drug Possession

(INDIANAPOLIS) - An elementary school teacher was drunk and had “a large amount of suspected marijuana” in her SUV when officers arrested her early Sunday morning, police say.

According to a report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, police were dispatched to 54th Street and Keystone after a crash around 9:15 a.m. Sunday. They later stopped the driver at 3600 E. 46th St. as she tried to leave the scene.

IMPD identified the driver as Megan Brotherton, 32, an elementary school teacher at Pleasant Run Elementary School in Warren Township.

According to the report, Brotherton had a large amount of marijuana in her car and an open container along with drug paraphernalia. She agreed to a blood draw, police said.

Officers arrested her on charges of dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, public intoxication, operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash causing injury.

She was taken to the Marion County Jail.

Warren Township officials released the following statement regarding the arrest:

We are aware that over the weekend, one of our MSD Warren Township employees was involved in an unfortunate situation. As a district we expect every employee to adhere to the highest standards of job performance and of personal conduct.

In response to the alleged charges we have placed Ms. Brotherton on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
