(MONTGOMERY CO,) - Two dogs are recovering in Montgomery County after Animal Control Officers say they were abandoned inside a home.
WLFI reports that officers report that the dogs were left alone for more than four days with no food or water... and they had not been fed for weeks. Officer Kevin Stonebraker said he received a call reporting barking dogs coming from a house where residents had been evicted.
He said he found three pit bulls too weak to walk. Two survived, but a third had to be put down due to health reasons.
Stonebraker said the owners did not have to let this happen.
"All he had to do is call us. Get ahold of us. we would've taken the dogs. We don't euthanize, if we don't have to. They would've had a chance at a good life," Stonebraker said.
"My favorite part about this job is caring for the animals and trying everything I can to get them back to good health. Get them to a good home, because every dog deserves a chance, I think," Aubrie Orr.
The dogs are slowly recovering at the Animal Welfare League shelter. Stonebraker said they know who the owners are, but they have not yet been charged with a crime.
