Body Found In Colorado May Be Missing Indiana Hiker

Last updated on Friday, April 4, 2014

(EAGLE, CO) - Authorities say they might have located the body of an Indiana man who disappeared three weeks ago while hiking in the Colorado mountains.

The Eagle County Sheriff's Department said a body found Thursday north of Vail might be that of 39-year-old James C. McGrogan of Chesterton, Ind.

Three people who were backcountry skiing told the sheriff's department they found the body below Booth Falls.

McGrogan disappeared March 14 when he separated from a group while hiking to a backcountry hut. Fellow hikers said McGrogan had food, water, medical supplies, a GPS and other tools.

A five-day search failed to find any sign of him.

McGrogan, a physician, worked in the emergency department of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Ind.

An autopsy is planned.
