Officials Propose Temporarily Housing Sex Offenders In Richmond

Last updated on Friday, March 7, 2014

(RICHMOND) - State officials’ proposal to temporarily house registered sex offenders at a Richmond, mobile home park has sparked a series of meetings around Indiana about the sensitive issue.

Wayne County Sheriff Jeff Cappa said the Indiana Sheriff's Association is hosting a series of meetings around the state with Department of Correction Commissioner Bruce Lemmon about the agency's plan to house registered sex offenders in communities.

Cappa tells the Palladium-Item the meetings "will give us a chance to work together and come up with some answers."

DOC spokesman Doug Garrison says the sheriff's association is inviting local law enforcement agencies for meetings with Lemmon in six regions around the state during the next several months.

He says the groups are going to work together "to try to find housing solutions."
