New Blood Test Could Predict Alzheimer's Disease

Last updated on Tuesday, March 11, 2014

(UNDATED) - A new blood test is in the works that could predict a person’s risk for Alzheimer’s disease up to two years before the first symptoms appear.

The new study identified 10 blood fats that signal when brain cells are starting to degenerate.

Researchers compared the blood test results from 40 people diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment to 40 control subjects and found the test was able to correctly identify those with memory problems 90-percent of the time.

Experts say larger studies are still needed and a commercial test won't be available for years.
