(OILDALE, Calif.) - A woman was taken into custody after her toddler swallowed methamphetamine, police said.
31-year-old Misty Dawn Ewers of California faces charges for cruelty to a child and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
According to investigators, a friend of Ewers noticed the child was acting strange and decided to take the 2-year-old to the hospital. Doctors said blood tests revealed traces of meth in the toddler's system.
Ewers was arrested at the hospital and both of her children were taken into protective custody, KERO reported.
Investigators said that the incident marked the third time that Ewers' children have been placed under custody.
