Married Deputies Facing Criminal Investagtion

Last updated on Wednesday, March 19, 2014

(HENDRICKS CO.) - Husband and wife sheriff’s deputies in Hendricks County are in trouble and their boss wants to fire them from their jobs.

Deputies Jason and Teresa Woods are the targets of a criminal investigation. Next week, the deputies will hear what the sheriff calls "serious violations" and what he calls very disappointing behavior for someone carrying a badge.

Sheriff Dave Galloway already ordered the pair to turn in their squad cars and all other department-issued gear.

Deputy Jason Woods has put in about 14 years with the department. He started his career working inside the jail. Sources say after several tries, his wife Teresa finally passed hiring tests about eight years ago.

Sheriff Galloway would not elaborate on the couple's state and federal criminal investigation. Without going into details, he outlined the department rules he says the couple violated.

"The rules they violated are performance of duty when enforcements are required, performance of duty with required action, criminal information when it came to their knowledge and they did nothing with it and conduct unbecoming an officer," Sheriff Galloway says.

State police did confirm that Sheriff Galloway contacted them to launch an independent investigation. The sheriff says the details of what the couple is accused of doing will come out next week when they come to the Hendricks County Government Center to defend themselves.
