(KOKOMO) - Nearly 30 years after his death, the plight of Ryan White will be re-visited in a lecture at IU-Kokomo.

Professor Emeritus of history Allen Safianow and retired Howard County public health nurse Judy Lausch will talk about how White's story continues to resonate in Kokomo.

Safianow and Lausch were part of a team that interviewed many people who played key roles in White's effort to attend classes at Western Middle School.

White acquired AIDS through an injection, which he received to treat his hemophilia.

Lausch will speak about the school's efforts to develop universal precautions, which were ways to prevent people from coming into contact with bodily fluids, after the courts found it was safe for White to attend school.

White and his family later moved to Cicero, and he attended Hamilton Heights High School. White died on April 8th, 1990.

The "Ryan White Oral History Project and the Development of Universal Precautions" will take place at 6:30pm in the Kelley Student Center.
