(INDIANAPOLIS) - A spokesman for Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard says the public is showing its support for the new criminal justice center.
The city has been holding public meetings about the new facility.
Marc Lotter says the mayor's office has had to overcome some residents' misconceptions of what this facility would be. He says a new, modern criminal justice center would not look like it used to with towers on the corners and spotlights searching around.
Lotter says residents have been telling him they like the idea of the new facility, which Mayor Ballard has recommended be located at the former GM stamping plant. He says another misconception is that the criminal justice center would use all of the former GM facility when, in fact, it would only use about one-third of it.
Lotter says residents like the idea because it will bring not only economic development to the area but also increased security due to the increase in police presence.
