(FORT WAYNE) - General Electric Corp. will shutter its last two remaining Fort Wayne operations early next year, costing about 90 workers their jobs.
Friday's announcement came after a 60-day bargaining period with the International Union of Electrical Workers and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
The Journal Gazette reports GE said in its statement that the union's proposals fell short.
The Fairfield, Conn.-based company once had more than 10,000 workers in Fort Wayne and has had a presence in the city since 1911.
But its two remaining Fort Wayne operations, a motor testing lab and an executive center, will close Jan. 15, eliminating the last 88 GE jobs in Fort Wayne.
The fate of the company's 32-acre property and 13 largely vacant buildings has not been determined.
