(VANDERBURGH CO.) - Several Indiana law enforcement agencies arrested two fugitives they said were wanted for a shooting involving a Tennessee sheriff’s office investigator.
Indiana State Police said that last Wednesday, 22-year-old Jacob Hammond, of Dover, Tennessee, reportedly fired multiple shot at a Montgomery County Sheriff's Office investigator while running from the site of a meth lab.
Authorities say the investigator was not injured, but a felony arrest warrant for attempted murder was issued for Hammond's arrest.
The was also a warrant issued for 29-year-old Amber Lehman, of Cumberland City, Tennessee, for probation violation and authorities believed she was traveling with Hammond.
Troopers said the U.S. Marshal's Service received information that Hammond and Lehman were possibly in the Evansville area Saturday night. Around 10:00 p.m., officers found a silver SUV with Tennessee plates in the Economy Inn parking lot on First Avenue.
Officers spotted Hammond and another male near the vehicle, and when they approached the two men, Hammond failed to listen to their orders. He was taken into custody with the help of a Vanderburgh County Sheriff's K-9.
Troopers said officers also found two handguns on Hammond. He was taken to Deaconess Hospital where he was treated and later released for a dog bite.
The other male, 38-year-old Jonathan Buckner, of Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee, was arrested after officers found meth making material inside their vehicle.
State Police said Lehman was later arrested in one of the hotel rooms.
All three were taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where they are being held without bond.
Hammond faces charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to manufacture meth, and possession of a firearm by a felony. Buckner faces charges of conspiracy to manufacture meth, assisting a criminal, possession of precursors. Lehman faces a charge of probation violation.
Indiana State Police, U.S. Marshal's Service and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office all helped in the investigation.
