Two Children Hurt When Hit By School Bus

Last updated on Thursday, February 27, 2014

(BARTHOLOMEW CO.) - Ttwo children were hurt when a school bus hit them at their bus stop Thursday morning in Bartholomew County.

The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. near Chaucer and Buckingham drives just south of Taylorsville.

Police say two children - a girl, 9, and a boy, 6 - were waiting at their bus stop in their neighborhood when they were hit by the bus.

Bartholomew County's deputy sheriff say they believe the girl was run over by the bus and her little brother was hit by the bus.

Although they're still piecing it all together, investigators went on to say a witness in a nearby home saw the kids dart out as the bus was approaching.

The driver of the bus told police he had just made a stop and was pulling in his stop arm and accelerating when the bus hit the kids.

The kids, students at Taylorsville Elementary School, are foster siblings. RTV6 spoke with their older foster brother, who says the little boy had a bump on his head but has been released from Columbus Regional Hospital.

However, the girl was not in as good of shape. After the bus ran over her, she couldn't move her legs.

She was airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children in serious condition.

There were roughly 30 children on the bus when it crashed. They were taken on to school afterward by another bus.
